West Ham United have been linked with a move for Eintracht Frankfurt hitman Hugo Ekitike by the French media today.
Ekitike has exploded in Frankfurt after a torrid time at Paris Saint-Germain, and he is reportedly on the West Ham transfer radar this summer as the Hammers look to reinforce the centre-forward position.
The Irons could use a new striker at the London Stadium, and it appears Ekitike is on the shortlist. He has 17 goals and six assists in 32 appearances this term. However, West Ham will be wary of his hefty €80 million release clause.
Die Adler have a reputation for milking clubs for massive sums, and West Ham cannot afford to fall victim.
Ekitike is a technically clean and dainty centre-forward with a massive future ahead. He could do a decent job leading the line for the Hammers if they decide to bite, but West Ham would be wiser to move for a cheaper and potentially better-fit striker.
Strasbourg striker Emanuel Emegha has been sensational this term, especially in the second half of the season.
The 22-year-old is a power forward who presses relentlessly, runs like a battering ram, and has incredible room for improvement in East London.
Emegha has scored 10 goals and assisted two in 17 Ligue 1 appearances. Detractors might point to his 15 big chances missed, but those numbers will even out in the long run.
He is still rough around the edges, but Emegha looks set for an explosion, and West Ham need to position themselves for his signature.
Ekitike plays in a top Bundesliga team and is ahead of the curve in development, but Emegha looks a better fit for the Premier League’s hard graft and could be a brilliant addition for West Ham.
Emegha will also come cheaper for the Hammers and attract less competition, with Liverpool and Arsenal also pursuing Ekitike. He joined Strasbourg from a Sturm Graz, a club with superb production line of strikers. He can make history in claret and blue.
