West Ham are one of six clubs in the race to sign Argentina international right-back Gonzalo Montiel.
That’s according to a report from Argentine outlet Ole, who claim Crystal Palace, Real Betis, Inter Milan, Roma, and Valencia are all keeping tabs on the 23-year-old.
Montiel, who made his debut for the Albiceleste last March, is one of the Superliga’s brightest stars but only has one year remaining on his deal at River Plate, which could open the door for a European side to buy him on the cheap.
Argentine network TyC claim that West Ham attempted to bring in Montiel on loan in January, making a £400,000 six-month loan offer that included an £8.3m option-to-buy.
West Ham will be looking for a significant upgrade at the right-back position, as Pablo Zabaleta will leave this summer while Ryan Fredericks has not been as impressive as the Hammers would like.
