West Ham United target Youssef En-Nesyri is ‘still on their radar’ despite suffering a drop-off in form, according to Daily Star journalist Paul Brown.

The Hammers are believed to be in the market for a new striker this summer and have been tipped to revive their interest in the Sevilla hitman after previously missing out on his signature.

Last summer, The Athletic revealed that West Ham manager David Moyes was eager to bring En-Nesyri to the London Stadium as he searched for Sebastien Haller’s heir.

A move failed to materialise, though, but the Daily Mail claim the east London outfit saw a £27 million bid for the 25-year-old’s services turned down in January.

However, that did little to deter the West Ham hierarchy as the Evening Standard claim that the east London outfit sent scouts to watch over the Morocco international at this years Africa Cup of Nations.

And it seems they must have been impressed with what they saw from En-Nesyri as the Daily Mail have also stated that the capital club are now expected to revisit the deal with an improved bid rumoured to be around £40m.

What has Brown said about En-Nesyri?

Brown informed GiveMeSport that it ‘would be a surprise’ if West Ham made a ‘big bid’ for En-Nesyri given his drop-off in form, although disclosed how he is still a player of interest.

He told GiveMeSport: “I’m pretty sure he’s still on their radar. They had quite a big bid turned down for him at one point when it looked like he was their most likely option that window.

“Since then, his forms gone off a cliff a little bit. He hasn’t had a great season, and it would be a surprise if West Ham were to make a big bid for him now.”

How good is En-Nesyri?

En-Nesyri, who was previously labelled “skillful” by Kevin Campbell, was one of the hottest properties in La Liga during 2020/21 when he found the back of the net on 24 occasions in 52 outings, with six of those strikes coming in the Champions League.

However, the speculation surrounding his future severely impacted upon his performances on the pitch last season, resulting in him dropping down Julen Lopetegui’s pecking order.

As a result, the 6 foot 2 marksman started just 15 La Liga fixtures throughout 2021/22, registering only eight goal contributions in his 29 appearances across all competitions.

There’s little doubting that En-Nesyri is a top-class performer when on top of his game, though, with journalist Euan McTear claiming he’s “like Benzema”, but whether West Ham want to take a £40m gamble remains to be seen.
