The east London club have struggled to make progress in their bid to sign the Eintracht Frankfurt wing-back, and Jones says they have never had a problem with moving on to a back-up option.

What is the latest news involving Kostic?

According to the MailOnline, the finances behind a potential deal for Kostic – hailed as a “phenomenal” player by journalist Ryan Taylor – have become a problem for West Ham.

In terms of how much the transfer fee alone could be, The Guardian recently reported that Frankfurt could ask for £17m.

With Kostic seemingly no closer to joining West Ham, the Hammers have turned to Maxwel Cornet, who has arrived from Burnley.

Also per the MailOnline, David Moyes reignited his interest in the Ivorian this month having initially considered him earlier in the transfer window.

What has Jones said about Kostic and West Ham?

Jones says West Ham are not too fussed about the situation with Kostic, who has scored 67 senior goals in his career.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, the journalist said: “Because there are quite a lot of left-backs of that type available in this window, I was told that they were never especially worried about signing a back-up if they didn’t actually get Kostic.”

Is Cornet a good alternative to Kostic?

With West Ham struggling to sign Kostic this summer, moving on to Cornet makes a lot of sense. The two are very similar players, both able to play in multiple positions on the left flank.

While Cornet started a lot of games up front last season, the 25-year-old has spent most of his career on the left, taking to the pitch as a left-back, left wing-back/left midfielder and left winger.

Speaking about Cornet last term, former Manchester United captain and pundit Roy Keane said on Sky Sports (via ChronicleLive): “He started the season really well with some real quality goals. The variation of his goals. Brilliant strike-rate and technique. He is obviously a big plus to Burnley.

“He hit the ground running, with some brilliant strikes. Fantastic. He had a little bit of a dip when he came back from the African Cup of Nations, but that can happen.”

Of course, if he is going to be playing at left-back at times for West Ham, there is going to be more of an emphasis on the defensive side of his game. All in all, though, Cornet is definitely a great option for the Hammers to have.
