West Ham United have looked at three new targets as they look to bolster their defence in the remainder of the transfer window after an injury crisis at the London Stadium, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

David Moyes has overseen a busy summer in east London but the Hammers may well be forced back into the market ahead of the deadline on September 1.

What is the latest West Ham transfer news?

This summer has seen five permanent signings made by last season’s Europa League semi-finalists, with just over £100 million spent.

£31 million was spent on Rennes centre-back Nayef Aguerd as Moyes looked to shore up his defensive options. But the 26-year-old suffered an ankle injury in pre-season against Rangers and is now facing up to 10 weeks on the side-line.

Ahead of West Ham’s 2-0 defeat to Manchester City, the Hammers boss bemoaned his lack of luck, saying: “That is a huge blow to us. We signed a centre-back and he gets injured in the first or second game. He has had an operation and we think he will probably be back in 10 weeks.”

With Craig Dawson and Angelo Ogbonna also sidelined, and Issa Diop closing in on a departure, they have suddenly been left short of options.

Conor Coady, Manchester United’s Eric Bailly and Fenerbahce’s Attila Szalai.

What has Jones said on the hunt?

Jones understands that all three players have been targeted this summer as the club scramble to bring in reinforcements.

The transfer insider told GIVEMESPORT: “All three of them have been looked at in different ways. I think it’s just a case of which one they can make the breakthrough with.”

Who will West Ham sign this summer?

Conor Coady boasts plenty of Premier League experience but appears to have opted for a loan move back to Merseyside with Everton instead.

United defender Bailly has racked up 70 top-flight appearances during his six seasons at Old Trafford and appears to have tumbled down the pecking order. Nevertheless, his Premier League know-how will likely appeal to Moyes.

Szalai is by far the biggest unknown of the bunch here. The 24-year-old only made the move to Turkey in January 2021 and has three years remaining on his deal.

According to reports in Turkey, however, West Ham are ready to make an opening bid of £12.4 million for his services, perhaps signalling he is their preferred option.
