West Ham have “asked the question” when it comes to Christian Eriksen, believes Daily Star journalist Paul Brown.

The Brentford midfielder is a free agent at the end of the month, and Brown thinks the east London club have explored signing him, though he cannot see a move to the London Stadium happening.

What is the latest news involving Eriksen?

BBC Sport recently reported that Manchester United are trying to persuade Eriksen to join them before the new season starts.

However, according to the same outlet, the 30-year-old would prefer to stay in London, something transfer insider Dean Jones told GIVEMESPORT earlier this month.

As well as United, Eriksen’s former club Tottenham are also thought to hold an interest in him, while the Daily Mail recently named Everton as another suitor.

The Denmark international made 11 appearances for Brentford, providing four assists to help Thomas Frank’s men have a successful debut Premier League campaign.

What has Brown said about Eriksen and West Ham?

Brown believes Eriksen is a player on West Ham’s radar but reckons he will be aiming higher than the east London outfit this summer.

Speaking to GMS, the Daily Star journalist said: “I think they’ve asked the question, but I think Eriksen is quite ambitious and wants to play for a team of a higher standing than that. Ideally, he’d love to be playing in the Champions League, really.

“He had a chance to go back to Spurs when the Inter thing wasn’t really working out for him, and all the indications from his people then were that he didn’t really want to come back to the Premier League. He felt it was a step back for him; he wanted to move up in the world and play regular Champions League football for a contender, so West Ham and Brentford clearly don’t fit that.

“Things have changed since then; obviously a lot’s happened in his life. But I think, ideally, he’s still looking for one more shot at the big time and may feel that West Ham aren’t high on his list of priorities.”

Would Eriksen be a good signing for West Ham?

Without a doubt. After all, this is a player with 110 goals and 162 assists in his senior career, according to Transfermarkt.

He can play as an attacking midfielder and even a bit deeper, while he obviously has so much experience at the highest level after spells with Tottenham, Inter Milan and Ajax.

But because of all of that, he is attracting interest from the likes of Spurs and United, which may just put him out of reach for David Moyes’ side.
