West Ham United may have to pay a premium price to bring Spezia and Poland international Jakub Kiwior to the London Stadium on the back of the central defender’s performances at the World Cup, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The 6 foot 2 centre-back has impressed with his performances for Czesław Michniewicz’s side in Qatar this winter, and has been linked with a move to David Moyes’ side.

West Ham transfer news – Jakub Kiwior

According to La Nazione, West Ham, AC Milan, Juventus, Napoli and Roma are all interested in a move for Kiwior in January, with his performances at the World Cup leading to the centre-back’s value increasing to £17m.

However, alternative reports suggest that the Serie A club value the 22-year-old at £25m after gaining the interest of both Premier League and Italian clubs.

Jones has previously informed GiveMeSport that the Irons are looking at strengthening their centre-back options and that the Pole’s name could be one to look out for in the coming weeks.

And the journalist believes that Spezia will try and add more on to Kiwior’s value in January following his impressive performances for Poland at the World Cup, in what looks like a bid to wade off interest or cash in on the centre-back’s performances.

What has Jones said about West Ham and Kiwior?

Jones told GiveMeSport: “I’m sure Spezia will try to add some sort of premium on the back of the World Cup.

“The negotiation will be there to be had. West Ham will just need to try and temper the numbers there and maybe even act like they’re not interested and then go back for him, because I know he’s somebody they have been keen on.”

How did Kiwior perform at the World Cup?

Kiwior was part of a defence that kept two clean sheets during the World Cup group stage, helping Poland navigate their way to the last 16 of the competition before a 3-1 defeat by France sent the Eastern European side packing.

The Spezia star started in all four games for Michniewicz’s side in Qatar, showing that despite his relative inexperience on the international stage, he was still trusted enough to become a regular at the heart of their defence.

The former Zilina centre-back averaged one interception and an impressive 3.3 clearances per game at the tournament according to Sofascore, suggesting that the youngster wasn’t fazed by performing on the world’s biggest stage this winter.

Whilst Kiwior will have been disappointed in the manner of Poland’s exit to France last weekend, a solid showing at this World Cup has no doubt increased his price tag and suitors ahead of what could be a very interesting January transfer market for the Spezia man.
