West Ham United boss David Moyes wants to sign a new striker who will challenge Michail Antonio for a starting berth at the London Stadium, according to Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth.

Antonio was the only senior frontman on the Hammers’ books throughout the entirety of the 2021/22 campaign, but it appears Moyes is keen to take the strain off the Jamaica international’s shoulders by luring another target-man to east London during the transfer window.

Which strikers have West Ham been linked with?

According to Calciomercato, West Ham have failed with a big-money bid for 22-year-old Sassuolo forward Giacomo Raspadori.

The report suggests Raspadori is also attracting interest from AC Milan and Juventus, while the 13-cap Italy international is valued by his current employers at £26million.

Raspadori, who won Euro 2020 with his homeland at England’s expense last summer, found the back of the net on 10 occasions last season.

Meanwhile, Spanish sources have revealed West Ham have entered the fray to sign Giovanni Simeone just a matter of days after completing a permanent switch to Hellas Verona.

It is understood the Serie A side, where the 26-year-old scored 17 goals while on loan last term, are looking to quickly cash-in on the Argentinian and are willing to listen to offers worth in the region of £17million.

Chelsea’s Armando Broja, meanwhile, has been identified as the Hammers’ top target and they are preparing a £30million bid.

What has Dharmesh Sheth said about the situation?

Sheth is certain that Moyes has set his sights on securing the services of a striker before the transfer window closes on September 1.

The Sky Sports reporter feels West Ham need to have another option after relying heavily on Antonio since Sebastien Haller left the club for Ajax in January 2021.

When asked where Moyes’ priorities lie, Sheth told GIVEMESPORT: “In the striking position, I think he’d want to reinforce there.

“I know Jarrod Bowen has filled in in the central striking role when Michail Antonio hasn’t been fit, but I’m sure David Moyes will want even more back-up in that area to provide real competition for Michail Antonio because he plays all the time when he’s fit.”

Who have West Ham signed since the transfer window opened?

West Ham completed their first piece of business yesterday, with Nayef Aguerd joining from Ligue 1 side Rennes.

The central defender has headed to the London Stadium after terms were agreed on a transfer worth £30million, including add-ons.

With the 21-cap Morocco international bolstering Moyes’ options at the back, the West Ham chief has reportedly targeted another six signings prior to the summer transfer window slamming shut.
