According to Fabrizio Romano, West Ham United are closing in on a permanent deal for PSG goalkeeper Alphonse Areola (29), with the East London club increasingly confident that a deal can be done for around €12m. On the French international goalkeeper’s side of the deal, there are reportedly ‘positive feelings’ that a permanent deal can be made.

Areola was on loan at West Ham last season, acting as a back-up to polish international Łukasz Fabiański. The 2018 World Cup winner only played one full 90′ minute game in the Premier League, which was a 1-0 loss away to Manchester United.  However, in the Europa League Areola played the majority of the campaign with 10 appearances and five clean sheets – knocking out Lyon along the way.

Areola looks like he will finally move permanently away from Paris Saint-Germain, after being at club since youth level in 2008. Never quite breaking into the Parisian side, the goalkeeper has been loaned out six times during his 14 years at PSG including Real Madrid, Villarreal, Fulham, RC Lens, SC Bastia, and finally West Ham United last season.
