West Ham United could finally replace Jesse Lingard after being linked with a move for Feyenoord attacking midfielder Guus Til ahead of the January transfer window.

What’s the story?

According to TEAMtalk, the Hammers are one of several Premier League sides keen to bring the 23-year-old to English shores next month, with Everton, Wolves, Southampton, Crystal Palace, Brighton, Brentford and Watford also listed as potential suitors.

Til joined Arne Slot’s charges on a season-long loan from parent club Spartak Moscow over the summer, and although the Dutch outfit are keen for him to remain in Rotterdam for the remainder of the campaign, they accept that outcome now appears unlikely.

West Ham can finally replace Jesse Lingard

Lingard joined the east London outfit on a short-term deal last term after struggling for game time at Manchester United and instantly became a huge fan’s favourite.

In just 16 appearances, the England international bagged nine goals and provided five assists, firing West Ham to sixth position in the Premier League table and a place in this season’s Europa League.

However, the capital club have found it difficult to replace Lingard’s output since his return to Manchester, with summer signing Nikola Vlasic yet to find the back of the net throughout 2021/22.

But Til could be the answer to West Ham’s lack of midfield firepower after reviving his career with a hugely successful stint at Feyenoord.

The £4.5m-rated magician moved to Spartak from boyhood club AZ Alkmaar back in 2019 but struggled to adapt to his new surroundings, managing just two goals and four assists in 23 outings games his maiden campaign in Russia.

Til’s below-par performances prompted a season-long loan move to Freiburg the following campaign, yet his spell in the Bundesliga also ended in major disappointment after he made just seven league outings during 2020/21.

Nevertheless, the 6 foot 1 dynamo was labelled “unbelievable” by Slot following a stunning strike against NEC Nijmegen, with his tally now standing at a whopping 15 goals and three assists in 23 appearances this term.

His impressive performances at club level have also earned Til a recall to the Netherlands international squad, and David Moyes must weigh up a move for the creative talent in January as he looks to bolster his faltering forward line.

Judging by his goal tally this term, he’d certainly help to replace the void Lingard left behind.
