West Bromwich Albion to appoint Carlos Corberan as new manager | OneFootball

West Bromwich Albion are set to announce Carlos Corberan as their new manager, according to Sky Sports.

West Brom began the season with Steve Bruce in charge. However, he was sacked two months into the campaign, having won just one of his opening 13 league games.

As they search for a new manager, Richard Beale has taken over the role on a temporary basis. He picked up three points in his first game against Reading, but has since followed this up with back-to-back defeats against Bristol City and Millwall. This has left the Baggies in 23rd place, with just 14 points from 16 outings.

But their hunt looks set to end. According to Sky Sports, Carlos Corberan is set to be confirmed as their new boss in the next 24 hours.

After brief spells in Spain, Saudi Arabia, and Cyprus, Corberan got his first taste of English football at Leeds United in 2017. He began as manager of the Under-23s side, before becoming Marcelo Bielsa’s assistant a year later. The pair worked alongside each other for two seasons, achieving promotion to the Premier League.

The Spaniard was later appointed by Huddersfield Town as their replacement for Danny Cowley. He narrowly avoided relegation in his debut season at the John Smith’s Stadium, finishing in 20th.

In his second campaign at the Terriers, Corberan began to make a real impression. Despite working with a limited budget, the 39-year-old took his side desperately close to promotion, finishing in third place and losing in the play-off final to Nottingham Forest.

Weeks after the play-off final heartbreak, he resigned as Huddersfield boss. He had a stint in charge of Olympiakos, but lasted just seven weeks after winning just two of his opening 11 displays in all competitions.

Corberan’s first game for West Brom will come at home to fifth-placed Sheffield United. This is followed by another home fixture against Blackpool, before a trip to current league leaders Queens Park Rangers.
