West Bromwich Albion are in advanced negotiations with Steve Bruce to become their next manager.

What’s the talk?

That’s according to a claim made by Rob Dorsett, with the Sky Sports journalist revealing in a post on Twitter that the Baggies have opened talks with the 61-year-old regarding the vacant managerial position at The Hawthorns, following Valerien Ismael’s sacking on Wednesday afternoon.

In his tweet, Dorsett said: “WBA in advanced negotiations with Steve Bruce about their head coach vacancy.”

Fans will be fuming

When taking into account one of the major reasons West Brom fans were not happy with the leadership of Ismael was the brand of football the Frenchman had installed at The Hawthorns, the news that the club appears to be keen to land Bruce as the 46-year-old’s successor is sure to have left many supporters fuming.

While the highly experienced head coach does boast a decent record in the Championship, guiding Birmingham City to the top flight on two separate occasions, as well achieving automatic promotion with Hull City and reaching the play-off final with both the Tigers and Aston Villa, the style of football the 61-year-old implements upon his teams is not the most pleasing on the eye.

Indeed, following his sacking from Newcastle United, The Guardian’s Louise Taylor wrote that Bruce’s “incoherent style and the lack of an evident attempt to forge an identity or philosophy” was largely his undoing at St. James’ Park – something that could easily be attributed to Ismael’s last few months in charge at The Hawthorns.

As such, while the appointment of Bruce may well see Albion finish in the top six this season, whether or not fans would be happy with the way their side achieved this feat is another matter entirely.
