West Brom, QPR and Reading are all monitoring Liverpool’s Leighton Clarkson who could be available on loan in the January window.

The 21-year-old midfielder is currently with Aberdeen on a temporary basis and he has impressed north of the border, scoring four goals in 17 games for Jim Goodwin’s side.

Such form has caught the eye of clubs in the Championship, with Football Insider stating that the three clubs are tracking Clarkson during the current window.

The update claims that Albion, the R’s and the Royals have all registered their interest in the player, with Liverpool considering cutting the player’s loan at Pittodrie short in order to allow him to test himself in England.

If that happens, it would be Clarkson’s second spell in the Championship after a short spell with Blackburn in the 2021/22 season where he managed just seven appearances before returning to the Reds.

All three clubs are looking to strengthen their squads this month as they hope to finish in the top six and push for promotion this season.

The verdict

It’s no surprise to see there is plenty of interest in Clarkson because he is a talented all-round midfielder who has the potential to get even better.

His form with Aberdeen has been very good and whilst some are dismissive of Scottish football, it’s still a physical and demanding league, so it’s promising that Clarkson is excelling in such an environment.

Ultimately, this is going to be Liverpool’s call as he is their player and it will be interesting to see what they decide is the best step for Clarkson in his development.
