West Brom: It is hard not to be impressed by Tom Fellows when it comes to one thing

The young winger has carried over his form from last season into the new campaign, and is already providing assists from the flanks.

West Bromwich Albion have been one of the most impressive teams in the Championship so far in 2024/25, with their attacking players some of the most exciting in the division.

Josh Maja and Karlan Grant have been excellent in the opening nine matches of the season, with their performances perhaps coming as a surprise to many after struggling to make an impact in recent years.

However, one star that Albion supporters had high hopes to carry his form over from 2023/24 to the new campaign was Tom Fellows, and the 21-year-old has already proven in the opening two months of the season why there has been Premier League interest in him.

Everton, Ipswich Town and Southampton were all linked with a move for the winger, with the latter of the trio having a £10 million bid rejected by West Brom in August, according to John Percy.

Nevertheless, Fellows has not allowed the transfer talk surrounding him to have an impact on his performances, and he has already shown why he is one of the best wingers in the Championship.

Fellows is massively outperforming his xA rate

The Baggies have scored 12 goals in their first nine league games of the season, and Fellows has contributed to five of those.

He has picked up assists against Sheffield Wednesday, QPR and Portsmouth, while he also set up both of Albion's goals against Stoke City in their 2-1 win in August.

He has formed a great working relationship with Maja, combining with the striker four times, and it has been this partnership that has allowed West Brom to be an early candidate for promotion to the Premier League.

Fellows has been outstanding in the opening two months of the season and is already outperforming his expected assist (xA) rate twice over, registering an xA of 2.43.

While he leads the way in the assists charts currently, he is behind Luton Town's Alfie Doughty in the xA table (3.4), proving the quality of delivery that he has produced in the first nine games of the campaign.

If he continues at this current rate, he will overtake Adel Tarrabt's and Leif Davis' record of 21 assists in a single Championship season with Fellows is projected to hit 26 in 2024/25 based on his numbers so far.

Fellows will be vital in the coming months

Although it may be obvious, Fellows' fitness in the next few months will be crucial to West Brom's promotion credentials. If the 21-year-old faces an extended period on the sidelines at any point in the near future, then the Baggies may have a major problem on their hands.

Not many other teams in the Championship can boast a player with the talent and quality that the winger possesses, and his ability to whip in extremely dangerous crosses makes him a huge danger to any defence in the division.

After beating his assist record from last season already, Fellows will be hoping to add more goals to his game as the second tier resumes following a one-week hiatus for the international break, and finding the back of the net will only ease pressure on Maja as well.

January will be a challenging month for West Brom as it is likely that teams in the Premier League will re-register their interest in the Baggies academy graduate, and keeping hold of the 21-year-old must be seen as essential to Corberan.
