Liverpool midfielder Harry Wilson has emerged as a transfer target for West Bromwich Albion – but they face competition from both the Premier League and abroad according to Neil Jones of Goal.

Wilson spent last season on loan at Cardiff City in the Championship, scoring seven goals and notching 11 assists in 37 outings but now may be the time for him to move on permanently from Anfield.

And the Baggies, who have just appointed Valerien Ismael as their new head coach, are eyeing up the 24-year-old to bolster their options going forward, although they may end up being priced out of a deal.

Goal report that the Reds want a permanent deal for Wilson and not another loan move, with a fee being set at £12 million – which doesn’t sound very obtainable for a Championship club.

Quiz: Did each of these 20 midfielders ever score a goal for West Brom?

There’s also interest from the top flight as well with newly-promoted Brentford considering making a move for the Wales international, and there’s also interest from Portuguese giants Benfica but as of right now they’re unwilling to pay the asking price.

The Verdict

Wilson has proven himself at both Cardiff and Derby County to be a fantastic player at this level, but you get the feeling that he’s ready to move to a Premier League club now on a permanent basis.

It was a surprise that it didn’t happen last season considering he made an impact at Bournemouth on loan in the top flight, but it’s really hard to see him returning to the Championship especially with the interest from clubs like Benfica.

Are West Brom also in the business to be throwing about eight-figure fees in the Championship? They will probably recoup money from sales of Matheus Pereira and potentially Sam Johnstone this summer but it’s unlikely that they’d throw £12 million at Liverpool for Wilson.
