FLW's West Brom fan pundit has indicated the Baggies must act for this factor in January
This article is part of Football League World's 'Terrace Talk' series, which provides personal opinions from our FLW Fan Pundits regarding the latest breaking news, teams, players, managers, potential signings and more...
West Brom may face a quiet January transfer window with reports emerging that the Baggies are likely to not spend heavily in the winter.
According to football finance expert Dan Plumley (via West Brom News), the Baggies could be under an embargo this window, but it is unknown whether that is the truth, but it sees West Brom treading very lightly in the winter in terms of spending money.
This advice has emerged after West Brom were reportedly placed under an EFL business plan during the summer transfer window because of financial concerns.
However, the Championship has proven to be quite underwhelming in terms of quality this year, so now might be as good a time as ever to act in terms of spending big.
FLW's West Brom fan pundit, Callum Burgess, has picked out his one concern surrounding the potential financial implications the Baggies could face in January.
"My one concern ahead of the January transfer window is that Albion might not be able to take advantage of what I think is a poor Championship this year.
"While Albion haven't been great as of recently, they still find themselves in fifth place. If they are able to make that one good signing to get them over the line, like Mikey Johnston last season, if we are able to get a top quality number ten in, it gives them the option to have a really good midfield.
"Mowatt is a great option with either Molumby or Racic, who are decent, but that extra cog in the midfield is what we're missing.
"On Saturday the formation did work well with Maja and Grant up front and Fellows and Johnston on either wing. I think having the choice to choose between that and a top quality number ten, then that would go a long way.
"So I think if Albion are restricted by their financial situation, it might set us back a bit, and for all we know, the division next year might be a lot more aggressive with a lot more quality. This year it could be a chance missed."
Regardless if the Baggies can spend their money this January, anyone would tell you they're lacking the creative spark.
For their position in the Championship, they rank quite low in terms of big chances created in the league so far this season.
Carlos Corberan's side have struggled to meet the requirements expected in front of goal, and after four goals in their last seven outings, this is proving very alarming for the Baggies.
Josh Maja is the only proven goalscorer in the side with nine of West Brom's 16 goals in the Championship this season, so by adding a creative spark behind him, this could really benefit West Brom.
The likelihood is looking that the Baggies won't be spending big, and it could prove to be a huge chance missed if the future is unkind to them.
