The striker has been absent for the last eight months after rupturing his Achilles, the fourth major injury of his time at the Hawthorns.

This January will mark three years since he made the switch to the Championship side in a deal worth £7 million, via the Daily Mail.

During his time with the Midlands outfit, he has made just 29 league appearances, scoring seven times (all stats from Fbref).

The 24-year-old’s last appearance for the club came in a 2-2 draw against Ipswich Town back in February.

Corberan has revealed that Dike is back training with the U21 squad, as he continues his recovery process.

The West Brom manager has claimed that he is on a very specific individual programme, and that he will need to play a couple of games with the U21 side before being ready to come back into the senior team.

“He is now training with a team, but with the under 21s, so his first step to come back...we have been specific,” said Corberan, via Express & Star.

“Individual physical work, and then technical and tactical, but when we moved to the collective training drills, the first step the medical staff wanted to do was with the under-21s.

“Then, he has done analytical drills with us, but not game situations.

“They will come in the international break.

“Before he plays with us, he will play with the under-21s, one or two games.

“That is the plan we have in mind.

“He is now make game situation drills with the under-21s, analytical drills with the first-team and technical and tactical drills individually.

“In the international break, before he plays for the under-21s, he must complete collective training with the first team.

“Before he can play with the first team, he must do at least one game with the B team.”

West Brom league position

Dike will be hoping to recover from injury and put his difficult last three years behind him by helping West Brom’s promotion ambitions for this season.

Corberan’s side currently sit fourth in the Championship table, just two points behind leaders Sunderland after nine games.

The Baggies earned a play-off place last season, but suffered defeat at the semi-final stages to Southampton.

Up next for West Brom is a trip to face Oxford United on 19 October.

Dike’s return to fitness will be a big boost to West Brom if he can stay fit

Dike hasn’t really had the chance to truly show what he’s capable of during his time at West Brom.

It’s been a very difficult time for him, and the club have supported him well through these various injury issues.

They will all be hoping that this is the beginning of a new start for him at the Hawthorns, and his return could be a big boost to their promotion chances.

Josh Maja is in great form to start the campaign, and adding someone of Dike’s calibre as competition could spur him on to perform even better, or the pair could even strike up an exciting partnership of their own.
