Tom Page previously took an interest in a couple of the Blades' league rivals.

The prospective Sheffield United owners also made an attempt to purchase Preston North End and West Brom in their search to enter English football.

That's according to Alan Nixon, who has reported that the consortium led by Tom Page attempted to purchase two Championship clubs prior to their talks to take over the Blades.

The ongoing talks with the current Sheffield United ownership have lasted eight months, with no deal yet finalised.

It has been reported by Andy Giddings earlier this month that positive talks had been held, with just the finer details needed to be ironed out before anything could be completed.

The Yorkshire outfit have been hit with the two-point deduction penalty by the EFL for this season, with financial issues hurting the team under current owner Prince Abdullah.

Sheffield United takeover latest

The Blades' takeover process has dragged on for several months, bringing with it some uncertainty from supporters over whether it will go through or not.

For now, there remains confidence that a deal can be agreed between the two parties.

It has also been reported by Alan Nixon that Page is looking to bring in an Albanian investor into the fold in order to inject fresh capital into the club.

It remains to be seen what timeline exists for when a deal might be completed, with talks now looking set to drag into October.

But Page’s previous failed attempts to purchase Preston and West Brom show that he is keen to enter the world of English football.

Shilen Patel recently purchased the Baggies earlier this year, with a change of ownership coming as a relief to supporters after years of mismanagement.

Meanwhile, Preston remain under the helm of the Hemmings family, despite reports earlier this year that they would be open to a sale.

Sheffield United league position

Sheffield United were held to a 0-0 draw with Portsmouth on Saturday afternoon, which saw them fall to sixth in the Championship table.

The gap to the automatic promotion places is now only two points, with both of the top two losing this weekend.

Chris Wilder’s side will be aiming to fight for a place back in the Premier League at the first attempt after suffering relegation from the top flight last season.

Up next for Sheffield United is a midweek fixture at Bramall Lane against Swansea City on Wednesday night in a 7.45pm kick-off.

Sheffield United supporters will be getting impatient over takeover delay

A lot of Sheffield United supporters will be frustrated by the lack of progress in these takeover talks.

Page’s previously failed attempts to buy Championship clubs shows his great desire to get involved in English football.

But it does raise questions over why he was unable to buy either club, and raises further doubts over his ability to close a deal for Sheffield United.

The uncertainty surrounding any takeover is frustrating for fans, but the longer this drags on, the more that it could start to have a big impact on the team on the pitch as well, given how big of a distraction it’s already been.
