West Bromwich Albion are aiming to reach an agreement with Manchester City over a deal for striker Liam Delap.

According to a Patreon report from Alan Nixon (as cited by City Xtra), the Baggies have made a request to sign Delap on loan from the reigning Premier League champions.

Albion are currently on the lookout for a new striker due to the fact that Daryl Dike is set to be forced to watch on from the sidelines for the foreseeable future.

In an interview with The Athletic, Bruce revealed that the United States international is set to be out of action for at least a couple of months as a result of thigh injury.

Whereas Karlan Grant is currently leading the line for the Baggies, the Championship outfit do not have another out-and-out senior striker to turn to for inspiration as Kenneth Zohore is also injured and is free to leave the club this summer.

A product of City’s youth academy, Delap made his debut for the club in their clash with Leicester City in 2020.

Since this particular clash, the 19-year-old has featured on five further occasions for Pep Guardiola’s side in the top-flight.

The striker was included in City’s match-day squad for their 4-0 win over AFC Bournemouth last weekend.

The Verdict

Whereas it may take Delap some time to adapt to life in the Championship due to the fact that he has yet to play in this division during his career, there is no reason why he cannot go on to excel at this level in a West Brom shirt.

Incredibly impressive at Under-23 level, the striker has scored 32 goals in 32 Premier League 2 games whilst he has also chipped in with eight assists in this division.

Given that City have opted to bolster their attacking options by signing Erling Haaland and Julian Alvarez this year, Delap will find it extremely difficult to force his way into the club’s starting eleven if he stays at the Etihad Stadium.

Keeping this in mind, it could be argued that a move to West Brom could be exactly what Delap needs at this stage of his career as he will get the opportunity to feature on a regular basis in the second-tier.
