Aston Villa will entertain Everton at Villa Park on Thursday evening as they try to bounce back with a win in the Premier League. The Villans suffered a 3-1 loss at the hands of Manchester United last weekend which will dampen their spirits ahead of this midweek clash versus the Toffees.

Dean Smith could stick with his preferred 4-2-3-1 formation and is expected to make one change to his side for this game. Wesley Moraes will probably get the nod to lead the charge for the West Midlands outfit in the absence of Ollie Watkins, who won’t be eligible to play in this game due to suspension after he picked up two yellow cards in his last league outing.

Defence

Emiliano Martinez will once again operate in between the sticks for the Villans after conceding three goals in his last appearance in the Premier League. Ezri Konsa will continue to function alongside Tyrone Mings at the centre of Smith’s defence as they focus on keeping Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison quiet during the 90 minutes.

Matty Cash will fill in as the right-back while Matt Targett looks to impress on the other side as the left-back. Both Aston Villa full-backs will get the license to express themselves in the Everton half so that they can create enough chances for Wesley Moraes to find the back of the net.

Kortney Hause and Ahmed Elmohamady will be available for selection on the bench as they provide cover for the defensive positions.

Midfield

Douglas Luiz and John McGinn will assume the duties of the holding midfielders as they try to get a stranglehold in the game at the centre of the park and orchestrate some decent chances for their teammates up top.

The talented trio of Anwar El Ghazi, Ross Barkley and Bertrand Traore will operate just ahead of them as part of Smith’s attack. Traore scored a memorable goal versus the Red Devils which will give him a lot of confidence going into this clash at home versus Carlo Ancelotti’s men.

Jack Grealish could be back for this game but Smith might not risk playing him from the start and will probably only consider easing him back by using him off the bench.

Attack

Wesley Moraes will spearhead the Villans attack up top. The Brazilian striker could get a rare chance to impress from the start as Watkins is suspended for this contest.

Keinan Davis will make up the numbers on the bench as he waits for his chance to make an impact in the latter stages if needed.
