Chelsea have officially confirmed that French centre-back Wesley Fofana (22) has returned to training. The former Leicester City defender has been pictured at the Blues’ Cobham training ground as he was welcomed back to outdoor training for the first time since he suffered an anterior cruciate ligament tear in pre-season.

The Saint Étienne youth product suffered the injury in pre-season and hence missed out on Chelsea’s pre-season tour of America in July. Fofana has had a torrid time with injuries since he signed for Chelsea for a reported fee of £75m in July 2022. The 22-year-old broke has already spent two extended periods on the sidelines since he arrived at Stamford Bridge with separate knee injuries.

Fofana also suffered a leg break in his time at Leicester City which saw him most of the 2021/22 Premier League season. The France international’s return to training comes at a good time for Chelsea as the English football calendar gears up towards the hectic festive period. No initial timeframe has been placed on Fofana’s eligibility to return to competitive action or full first-team training but his return to training is a positive step in the right direction.
