Chelsea will lock horns with Brentford at the Community Stadium on Saturday evening, hoping to pick up all three points away from home. The Blues will be heading into the contest on the back of an encouraging 3-1 win against Southampton, whereas the hosts recorded a 2-1 victory over West Ham United on October 3.

Thomas Tuchel will probably opt for the 3-4-3 formation; however, he is expected to make a couple of changes for the upcoming contest as Mason Mount looks likely to make his way back into the starting eleven.

Defence

Eduardo Mendy is expected to start in between the sticks for the upcoming clash. The Senegalese shot-stopper will be hoping to put up a strong performance and secure a clean sheet on Saturday.

Thomas Tuchel might be left without the services of Thiago Silva as Brazil are set to play in the early hours of Friday morning.

As a result, Andreas Christensen is expected to start at the heart of Blues’ backline, whereas Trevoh Chalobah will feature at the left centre-back spot. Cesar Azpilicueta will fulfil the right centre-back position.

However, their main objective will be to keep Ivan Toney quiet throughout the ninety minutes.

Midfield

N’Golo Kante has recovered from COVID-19, but it might be another week before he makes it into the starting eleven. Hence, Mateo Kovacic and Jorginho might fulfil the holding midfield positions, with the latter occupying a more central role. The pair would be looking to dominate the midfield proceedings.

Ben Chilwell might start at the left wing-back position, whereas Callum Hudson-Odoi will fill in on the other flank as the right wing-back. The duo would be expected to stretch Chelsea’s attacks in the opposition half.

Marcos Alonso will have to settle for a place on the bench, but he could be brought on in the latter stages of the game if needed.

Saul Niguez could feature in the second-half as well.

Attack

Mason Mount and Kai Havertz will slot into the attacking midfield roles. The duo would be determined to set up some clear cut goal-scoring chances for the front-men.

Romelu Lukaku is suffering from muscle fatigue, same as Eden Hazard,” Roberto Martinez said ahead of Belgium’s clash against Italy.

“They’re not in best conditions to play. They’re leaving the national team camp due to these problems – I don’t know how long it will take.”

As a result, Timo Werner will lead the line for Chelsea this weekend. The German international will be hoping to find the back of the net when he faces off against the Brentford defence that has conceded three goals in their last three league matches.

Hakim Ziyech might come on to make a cameo appearance in the second forty-five minutes.
