Werder Bremen are closing in on their first transfer. Bild report that the Bundesliga side are in advanced talks with Leeds United to sign Maximilian Wöber. The Austrian, who only played 332 minutes across eight Championship games for the West Yorkshire club last season, is a bit-part player – while struggling with injuries last season – and reportedly has no future at the newly promoted Premier League club.

This also comes the day after Leeds United confirmed the signing of Sebastiaan Bornauw from Wolfsburg for €6m. Should Bremen reach an agreement to sign Wöber, the 27-year-old is expected to cost a fee in the low millions. That would see LUFC make a loss on the €12m that they paid RB Salzburg in January 2023. Six months following his arrival, the Austrian joined Borussia Mönchengladbach on a season-long loan.

Speaking while on international duty last month, Wöber said: “Leeds have already made it clear to me that they want to sell me. I was extremely happy that I was able to show other clubs that I’m fit, and that I’m still a really good footballer and that I don’t want to just rot away in England.”
