Wendie Renard won’t close the door on France return following Corinne Diacre’s dismissal | OneFootball

Lyon skipper Wendie Renard (32), who was the first player to announce her withdrawal from Les Bleues’ squad to protest the management system of Corinne Diacre, has said to Europe 1 that she would not rule out a return. Renard was backed by key France players Kadidiatou Diani and Marie-Antoinette Katoto, who had released statements of their own indicating that they would be withdrawing from Les Bleues’ future squads, putting increased pressure on Diacre. Last week, the French FA convened and decided to dismiss the France manager, who was in the job for six years.

Now that Diacre is out of the picture with the Women’s World Cup looming this summer, Renard has said she won’t close the door on a return to the France’s squad. “The next coach must want to work with me. Only the next coach will call me up if I perform with my club, so why not ?” Speaking on her decision to withdraw from Les Bleues, Renard stated it was a very difficult but personal choice. “It feels good to be aligned with my values.” Renard concluded that playing the 2023 World Cup will be her ultimate dream. “I am a competitor at heart. I love this jersey and I want to do everything to win a title with it.”
