After a dazzling start to the season with comprehensive wins, Simone Inzaghi has faced his first tough week with his new club.

The past few days has seen Inter Milan give up a goal lead twice to draw with Sampdoria and a loss to Real Madrid in the opening match of Champions League play.

While disappointing, the Italian manager has plenty of positives to take away from the matches as both results were undeserved for Inter.

But since the transfer everyone has wondered how the goals Romelu Lukaku provided were going to be replaced. After last night’s loss to Real Madrid the question grows louder.

Inter looked much the better side in the first half but were they unfortunate to face an in-form Thibaut Courtois or were they just not finishing their chances? Fans will hope the answer starts to become clear this weekend

Upcoming Matches:

FC Inter Milan vs Bologna, Saturday September 18th, Stadio Giuseppe Meazza, kickoff 18:00 CET

Fiorentina vs FC Inter Milan, Tuesday September 21st, Artemio Franchi Stadium, kickoff 20:45 CET

First Team Fitness:

Alexis Sanchez: While he wasn’t on any official injury reports, the Chilean midfielder had picked up a calf injury back in July while on international duty.

The injury lingered going into the international break but he has been named to the bench the last two matches albeit as an unused substitute.

The team is likely trying to bring him back slowly to prevent reaggravation and we will have to await further news after he is reevaluated by the club.

Stefano Sensi: Another unfortunate appearance in our health report for the oft injured Italian midfielder.

Sensi took Inter by storm with multiple man of the match performances when he first joined the club in 2019 but hasn’t been able to get a consistent run of matches as his body continues to betray him. At this point he has missed 40 of a possible 105 matches.

Unfortunately after coming on as a substitute against Sampdoria he had a heavy clash with defender Maya Yoshida that left him in considerable pain.

Scans after the match revealed he suffered a medial collateral ligament (MCL) injury similar to the one fellow Italian midfielder Roberto Gagliardini suffered from at the beginning of this season.

Early expectations are he will miss at least 6 matches over the next 3 weeks. The team’s physio department will have to reassess his fitness coming back from the international break, but it’s unlikely he’ll be given a nod for the match against Lazio on October 16th even if he is deemed fit
