It’s time to count down the top 10 teams in Major League Soccer.

10 LA Galaxy [13-9-11] (++)

Since allowing 17 goals over a four-game stretch, the Galaxy are unbeaten in their last four games.

With RSL locked in on 49 points, it’s simple for Zlatan and the seventh-placed Galaxy: Defeat a battered Houston Dynamo squad and they’ll qualify for the post-season.

If they find a way to mess it up this weekend, it will be a disaster of colossal proportions.

9 Portland Timbers [15-9-9] (++)

Portland defeated Real Salt Lake by three goals for the second time in succession and will hope to host their first-round play-off game.

It will be interesting to see which Timbers team shows up for the post-season.

8 Philadelphia Union [15-5-13] (-1)

It’s simple for Philadelphia this weekend: defeat NYCFC and they’ll host their first-round play-off game.

Despite losing a heartbreaker to New York Red Bulls last week, the Union go into the post-season in fine form and could be a threat to Atlanta or the Red Bulls should they advance.

7 FC Dallas [16-9-8] (-4)

In a battle of the top two teams in the West, FC Dallas were embarrassed at home by a motivated SKC squad.

FCD have been inconsistent all year, and it’s only right that they go into this weekend’s match against Colorado with a chance to be seeded as high as second or as low as fifth.

6 LAFC [16-9-8] (-1)

LAFC have been unbelievable in their inaugural season and could cap it all off with a Western Conference regular season title this weekend.

A win over top-ranked Sporting KC will guarantee LAFC the number one seed in the West.

5 D.C. United [14-8-11] (+3)

If you haven’t already hopped on, there’s still plenty of room on the D.C. United bandwagon.

Wayne Rooney has transformed United from a two-win club in the basement of the Eastern Conference to an MLS Cup contender in just a few short months.

Currently in fifth place on a four-match winning streak (eight matches unbeaten), they’ll need to leapfrog NYCFC and/or Philadelphia Union this weekend to secure home-field advantage for their first-round post-season clash.

4 Seattle Sounders [17-5-11] (NC)

Since the beginning of July, Seattle have lost just two of their 18 games – one of the hottest runs in the history of MLS.

The Sounders are currently on a four-match winning streak and face San Jose this weekend – the worst team in the league.

With a win and an FC Dallas loss or draw, Seattle will earn the second seed and a first-round bye.

They can also achieve this by earning a draw if SKC defeat LAFC and FCD lose to Colorado.

3 Sporting Kansas City [17-8-8] (+3)

All SKC did was trounce Vancouver 4-1 and destroy then-top-ranked FC Dallas 3-0 on the road to surge to the top of the Western Conference standings.

They’ll secure the number one seed in the West with at least a draw against LAFC.

2 Atlanta United [21-6-6] (NC)

Atlanta United can win the Supporter’s Shield with a win at Toronto FC this weekend.

Despite winning five of their last six matches, Atlanta has a lot to be worried about heading into the post-season.

Miguel Almirón is still out with a hamstring injury, Tata Martino announced he’s leaving at the end of the season, and Josef Martínez hasn’t scored in four games – the longest such streak in his MLS career.

Whatever happens this weekend, they can still hang their heads high and look forward to something special next season – as they qualified for their first CONCACAF Champions League for having the best aggregate record in MLS for the last two seasons.

1 New York Red Bulls [21-5-7] (NC)

The Red Bulls have reeled off four straight wins and are likely to make it five this weekend against Orlando City.

Despite being down by a point in the Supporter’s Shield standings, there’s no doubt that the Red Bulls are one of the hottest teams in the league and have talent up and down the roster.
