Tim Weah reveals he much prefers a ‘more attacking’ role at Juventus after finding the net again, but always follows the advice from his father George. ‘He tells me to be ready for anything.’
The Bianconeri seemed comfortable throughout the 2-0 victory over Torino, taking the lead through Weah meeting the parried Andrea Cambiaso effort, then soaking up pressure from Toro until Kenan Yildiz met the Francisco Conceicao cross with a diving header at the back post.
This was the USMNT star’s fourth goal of the season, compared to only one throughout all of his first campaign, so is he trying to follow in his father George Weah’s footsteps by becoming a star striker rather than a winger?
“I play a more attacking role now. I am a forward,” Weah told Sky Sport Italia.
“I am happy both for me and for the team this evening. I prefer to start in a wider role, but still attacking.”

Juventus will face Milan after the break for international duty and that is always going to be a special fixture for the Weah family.
“That is an important match not just for me, but for the history of my family. I hope to keep going like this, because when we all play together, we are strong.”
Does his father send him any texts when he scores a goal?
“Oh yes, he always sends messages.”
Weah was shown the famous goal that George Weah scored running from one end of the pitch to the other for Milan against Verona in September 1996, a game where current Torino coach Paolo Vanoli was on the bench.
What is the greatest advice that his father taught Tim Weah?
“My Dad always gives me advice, like any other father, he’s not just a retired soccer player, he’s also a supportive Dad. He tells me to be ready for anything, at the disposition of the team, to play any position and that is what I am doing now.
“When the coach asks me to play striker, defender, even goalkeeper – I’m ready to do it. That’s his message, to always be ready and be in the box, like I was today.”
While George Weah is Liberian, his son grew up in the USA and decided to represent them at international level.
Tim is one of two USMNT stars currently at Juventus, the other being Weston McKennie.
“We are all working towards one goal, but I like to push and tackle him in training. It’s all love for my brother, I am just happy to share the field with him every day.”
