‘We were brilliant’ – Rodgers delighted as Leicester boost top four hopes with 2-0 Sheffield United win | OneFootball

Brendan Rodgers has praised the performance of his Leicester side after the club boosted their hopes of securing a top four finish with a 2-0 victory over Sheffield United.

Leicester dominated the early exchanges and took the lead through Ayoze Perez, the forward turning home debutant Luke Thomas’ low cross to score his eighth Premier League goal of the campaign.

Dean Henderson made some smart saves for the visitors who improved after the break, but the Foxes made sure of the three points late on courtesy of substitute Demarai Gray’s low finish.

Victory was a welcome boost for Leicester and moves the club three points ahead of Manchester United ahead of their meeting with Crystal Palace, and Rodgers was delighted with his side’s showing as they edged closer to a place in next season’s Champions League.

“I thought we were brilliant, Sheffield United deserve so much credit for how they have worked and how Chris Wilder has got them playing, but we were outstanding,” Rodgers told Sky Sports.

“We have played well since we have come back but not been consistent enough. Tonight we were able to do that. A very good performance.

“The result gives us the second-highest finish in Leicester’s history. We have two games to go to create some more history.”

Rodgers reserved added praise for the performance of teenager Thomas, who became the third youngest player to start a Premier League fixture for the Foxes and impressed on his first-team bow.

“He has got that incredible composure, his first game at first-team level against a really good team – he lasted so well, aggressive, tenacious, and can pass the ball. He got a big round of applause, absolutely delighted for him and the team.”

Leicester’s next fixture is a trip to face Tottenham on Sunday, whilst Sheffield United will be looking to bounce back when they hose Everton at Bramall Lane.
