Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti was in no mood to mince words, on the back of his side’s meeting with RB Leipzig on Wednesday night.

As much comes amid the widespread assessment that Real looked, to put it lightly, some way short of their best against the German outfit.

Los Blancos are fresh off booking their spot in the quarter-finals of the Champions League, courtesy of a 2-1 aggregate downing of Marco Rose’s Leipzig.

If not for some altogether wasteful finishing on the part of tonight’s visitors to the Santiago Bernabéu, though, the capital heavyweights could very easily have found themselves facing up to extra-time, or even worse…

Real struggled on both sides of the ball, on their way to giving up a whole host of presentable goalscoring opportunities.

In turn, it should come as little surprise to hear of Carlo Ancelotti as having been left far from impressed with his side’s latest endeavours.

Speaking to the media on the back of the full-time whistle in Spain’s capital on Wednesday, the Italian tactician was highly critical of his players, ranting:

“We were bad. Very stiff, the block was too deep. With the ball, we were very slow, not vertical. It was a bad night. We have to say it.”

Ancelotti continued:

“The idea was to press more and to bring more energy, but the team played slow. No pressing, slow passing, little verticality and side to side passing.”
