Real Madrid were hoping to recreate their win against Celta Vigo tonight as they traveled to Pamplona to take on Osasuna for gameweek 29 of La Liga.
With the season about to call curtains in ten gameweeks, Carlo Ancelotti and co. would be hoping to end it on a high note by going all guns blazing in all competitions they are still alive in.
And once again they proved why they are runaway league leaders this season as they scored four past Osasuna, making it eight goals in the last six days for the club.
Vinicius Jr and Federico Valverde were the star performers today, scoring two and assisting two, respectively, while a goal-a-piece from Daniel Carvajal and Brahim Diaz was more than enough to secure a dazzling win.
Following the game, Carvajal was asked to comment on the game and other highlights of Madrid’s calender, including the Manchester City draw in the Champions League quarter-finals.
“In the locker room they [Manchester City] were one of the rivals we wanted, because they are at a really high level, they are very good,” the Spaniard said about Pep Guardiola’s side.
As far as the game was concerned, Madrid exploited Osasuna’s poor defensive structure quite a few times with long balls behind the defence, and Carvajal commented on the same.
“We knew how to read the opponent. They left a lot of space behind them, and several times, we reached the box and were able to create chances.”
Carvajal was on target for the second goal with a lovely outside-of-the-box finish, and he celebrated with a kiss to his forearm, which had the Real Madrid captain’s armband at the time. However, as it turns out, the celebration was actually for his wife.
“I reached the box, Fede put the ball in and I have nailed it with the outside. I’ve tried to put it on the other foot for Herrera and it worked.”
“This year I’m plugging goals in, I’m happy and I hope I continue with the streak at the end of the season to help the team with its goals.”
“I usually kiss my forearm while celebrating because I have my wife’s initials, which are also the same as mine. It goes to her because I love her very much,” the right-back explained affectionately.
And of course, he could not end the interview without a nod to Vinicius Jr, who was once again the Man of the Match tonight with two goals.
Carvajal said, “Vinicius did everything right, we congratulated him and may he continue like this.”
“Hopefully the next Spain vs Brazil game match not be so good for him, I will have to suffer against him but hopefully I can stop him [laughs].”
