Alan Shearer has admitted it is hard not to laugh at the former Tottenham Hotspur striker, Harry Kane’s, situation at Bayern Munich.

It has now been the best part of half a year since the all-time goalscorer left the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for the Bundesliga.

However, it is perhaps not panning out to be the move he may have hoped for having signed for the 11 consecutive German champions.

Kane’s Bayern lose to Leverkusen

Going into the weekend, Bayern found themselves trailing Xabi Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen in second place, but with the opportunity to leapfrog them into top spot.

That is not how the game transpired for Bayern as they were emphatically beaten by Leverkusen 3-0, seeing the hosts extend their lead at the top to five points.

And it was a night which Kane will want to forget given his move to Bayern was with winning silverware in mind following so many years at Tottenham without a trophy.

Speaking on The Rest Is Football podcast, Shearer spoke about Kane’s search for a trophy [33:35]: ‘I’m just thinking about Harry Kane again. I know we shouldn’t laugh at the situation, but what if Bayern won 11 consecutive titles and he goes there and you imagine him not winning the title. There’s a real possibility now.”

A night to forget for Kane

Kane’s move to Germany has saw the England captain score an incredible amount of goals with 28 in his 28 appearances.

But the game at the BayArena was one he will not be wanting to remember in a hurry with his stats saying it all:

  • 18 touches
  • 10 passes
  • 4x lost possession
  • 0 accurate crosses
  • 0 shots on target

Statistics sourced via SofaScore.

Bayern saw their first opportunity of a trophy disappear in Kane’s debut for the club when they faced RB Leizpig in the Super Cup.

They were also on the end of a stunning defeat against third-tier side Saarbrucken in the DFB-Pokal.

It has to be said that Bayern are still well within the hunt for the German crown, however, Leverkusen are showing no sign of slowing down and Saturday’s game felt like the chance for Bayern to do just that.

It’ll be interesting to known whether he is watching the football on display from Ange Postecoglou’s side.
