This morning Celtic confirmed the permanent signing of Jota from Benfica on a five year deal with the Scottish Champions paying £6.4m for the fans favourite. The Portuguese club has retained a sizeable sell-on interest in the winger believed to be between 25-30%.

The delighted Celtic support, who refer to Jota as ‘our superstar from Portugal’ spent an anxious month of June waiting for news on this signing being confirmed as the player enjoyed an extended break which he used to travel extensively. The Celtic Star affectionately referred to the player as Phileas Fogg, who actually travelled around the world in 72 days despite the movie adding eight additional days on for some reason, unknown to us.

Jota’s trip maybe wasn’t as long but for the anxious Celtic support it certainly seemed that way. The announcement today makes perfect sense as the player’s season long loan ended at midnight on 30 June and his new contract – and the official transfer after Celtic took up the option to buy with the fee agreed with Benfica last summer – beginning today, on 1 July.

Last season the Portuguese scored 13 goals and provided 14 assists in 40 appearances for Celtic as Ange Postecoglou’s side won the Scottish Premiership and League Cup. And with Celtic getting stronger it’s no wonder that online sports betting Malaysia has installed Ange Postecoglou’s side as firm favourites to retain the Scottish Premiership title, by making it eleven triumphs in twelve seasons.

Today’s Jota transfer news together with the two other loan deals already upgraded to permanent one term contracts – Cameron Carter-Vickers from Tottenham and Daizen Maeda from Yokohama F・Marinos – gives Celtic’s squad a big boost as three crucial players in the title winning season all sign on permanent contracts.

There are rather envious supporters of theRangers who reckon that Celtic are spending all of this money on these players but are not improving since these three players were already at the club last season. They fail to consider the impact that losing these top performers would have had on the Scottish Champions and the difficulty in trying to replace them should they have decided against joining Celtic on these long-term permanent deals.

And of course Celtic have actually added to last season’s squad with Ange Postecoglou addressing the two most glaring weaknesses in his squad, the need for a top quality goalkeeper to rival Joe Hart for the first team gloves and the strengthening of the left-back position to give Greg Taylor some competition down that side of the Celtic defence.

By signing the impressive former Dundee United keeper Ben Siegrist on a free transfer after his contract at Tannadice expired and adding the £3.4m capture from Lanus of the exciting Argentinian Under 21 international Alexandro Bernabei, Ange Postecoglou has already ensured that Celtic will be stronger in his second season in charge of the club.

And the Australian is unlikely to stop with those five additions to his squad, with a defensive midfielder high on his list of priorities and with another central defender and possible a new striker all likely to be signed. And with the squad getting ready to head to the clubs summer training camp in Austria, don’t be surprised if these additional new recruits don’t show up while Celtic are over there.
