Ange Postecoglou has confirmed that Tottenham will delve into the January transfer window to sign a new centre back.

Spurs suffered a big blow last month after Micky van de Ven got injured. He is expected to be out for a while, and Spurs need another top-quality defender to fill the void.

Eric Dier hasn’t impressed at all, and it looks like he is not in Postecoglou’s long-term plans either. In the 4-1 victory against Newcastle, Ben Davies has played alongside Cristian Romero which shows that Spurs really do need one more quality centre-back.

Ahead of Tottenham’s Premier League clash against Nottingham Forest on Friday night, the Spurs boss, said, as relayed by Fabrizio Romano: “We need to sign another centre-back though because at the moment we’re on tenterhooks in case something else happens there”.

Should Spurs move for Ben Godfrey?

According to a report from 90min, Tottenham are ready to step up their chase to sign Ben Godfrey in the January window.

Godfrey has struggled to get regular games under Sean Dyche at Everton, and he could be allowed to move on, either on loan or on a permanent deal.

Since Van de Ven got injured, Spurs have looked shaky at the back, and they have lost three Premier League games. Spurs sold Davinson Sanchez to Turkish champions Galatasaray during the summer, and they are now looking for someone who would be more suited to playing in Postecoglou’s system.

It has been reported that Spurs scouts are impressed with Godfrey who has fallen down the pecking order at Goodison Park. He needs to play regularly in order to have any chance of getting into the England national team once again.

Tottenham are also long-term admirers of Godfrey’s club teammate, Jarrad Branthwaite, but Everton won’t sell their prized asset in the January window.
