Huddersfield Town granted Levi Colwill the chance to spend some time with his family earlier in the week, but he’s since returned to training and is in contention to start for the Terriers this weekend against Barnsley.

Carlos Corberan took Colwill out of his starting line-up on Saturday as Huddersfield fell to a 2-1 defeat to Middlesbrough at the John Smith’s Stadium. The reason for that was the amount of football the 18-year-old had played at both club level and within the England youth set-up.

International duty last month robbed Colwill of the opportunity to have time off like his Huddersfield teammates, which has sparked Corberan’s decision to allow the Chelsea loanee back down south to visit his family.

He told this afternoon’s press conference: “He had a couple of days to travel to his city to be with his family because it’s been a long time since he’s had the opportunity to see his family. He’s a young player and we need to manage these types of details to help his development.

“It’s something necessary for him. He’d arrived at a point in the season where he was playing many games in a row and the risk of injury had started to increase. For us, it was important to give Colwill these couple of days that he didn’t have when the rest of the team did during the international break.

“He needs to refresh a little bit and it will help. When you are young, you need this contact with your family and we understand it was important for him.”

Huddersfield have been licking their wounds following that defeat to Middlesbrough and had no game midweek to bounce back.

Next up for the Terriers is a trip to Oakwell to face Barnsley on Saturday, with Colwill set to return to the starting line-up.

Corberan stated: “He was training as normal with the group from Tuesday and he’s made a normal week of training. If everything goes well tomorrow, he will be in the first eleven of the team.”

Colwill has featured on 15 occasions so far this season in the Championship, helping Huddersfield flirt with the possibility of competing for the play-offs.
