Norwich City defender Andrew Omobamidele has called for a reset after his side lost 1-0 away at Bristol City on Saturday.

It means back-to-back defeats for David Wagner who was unable to inspire a reaction following last weeks drubbing at home to Burnley.

There was hope that their away form could be the catalyst for a win, but that proved to not be the case as the Canaries slumped to a defeat at Ashton Gate.

It was a sloppy display from Norwich, who made several errors in possession once again throughout the afternoon, restricting their ability to build attacks. They ended the game with just one shot on target, a statistic not befitting of the quality within the squad.

Kieran Dowell was caught in possession for the goal, which also included goalkeeper Angus Gunn allowing the ball to ease past him which left many expasperated at the manner of the goals.

Defender Omobamidele addressed the errors, suggesting hard work will help eradicate them. He explained to the Pink Un: “I don’t think there is a solid answer as to why we’re making mistakes. It could be a number of things in football – it could be a confidence thing.

“It all comes down to training and standards. We need to get back to the standards that we know we can hit.”

The drop in standards makes for concerning reading, considering the quality and experience within the squad. However, Norwich have spent a lot of time losing over the last 12 months which might point to more wider issues than just a drop in standards.

The club needs a soft reset this summer, which may mean big changes come the end of the season.

The Verdict

It’s not been the best of seasons for Norwich who have needed a reset for a while now.

Whilst the club has bounced between the Premier League and the Championship, it’s been clear for a while now that several of the players have struggled with the step up, pointing to the need of a refresh.

That hasn’t happened and unfortunately it seems to be catching up with them. The club made big changes in 2017, when the likes of Cameron Jerome, John Ruddy and Jonny Howson all left and the same needs to happen this summer to continue to evolve.
