“We need to become more dominant”

Markus Krösche, Dino Toppmöller and Kevin Trapp analyse the narrow 1-0 victory over 1. FSV Mainz 05.

Board member for sport Markus Krösche: “We should have played better football. Our aim has to be to become more dominant, even against deep-lying opposition. In the end, we won 1-0 and got the three points after giving two away against Darmstadt. We need to work on a lot of things – we’re too static and our movement needs to be better off the ball. We need to be more determined and get in the box more often. I’m also pleased for Mario Götze, who finally got his goal. The result is good, we scored a goal and were able to get our noses in front, but we still have a lot of work to do.”

Head coach Dino Toppmöller: “We’re lucky winners. We have to be better going forward and be more dominant in front of a capacity crowd of 58,000. We’re very happy we were able to get the win for Peter Fischer in his final home game, even if we wanted it to be more of an attractive one.”

Kevin Trapp: “It was a very tough game with hardly any scoring chances, but there have been times when we haven’t managed to win games like that. This time, we’ve defended really well against a physically strong Mainz side. Winning at home against Mainz on a Friday evening is obviously nice.”
