FLW's Sheffield Wednesday fan pundit has given his verdict on the latest situation surrounding Danny Rohl's future at the club
This article is part of Football League World's 'Terrace Talk' series, which provides personal opinions from our FLW Fan Pundits regarding the latest breaking news, teams, players, managers, potential signings and more…
Danny Rohl’s position as Sheffield Wednesday manager remains in doubt with the new Championship season just weeks away.
As reported by the Sheffield Star, the German may not remain in charge of the Owls despite his return to the training ground, amid a setback in the potential takeover process of the second tier side.
It was hoped that the 36-year-old would remain in charge of the Yorkshire outfit after returning late for pre-season due to previous uncertainty over his position.
It’s understood fresh talks have been held regarding his future with owner Dejphon Chansiri, but it remains unclear what the path forward will be for both parties after negotiations over a takeover stalled.
When asked about the fresh uncertainty over Rohl’s future, FLW’s Sheffield Wednesday fan pundit Patrick McKenna called for clarity over the situation
He is hopeful Rohl will remain in charge, but believes this entire saga has dragged on far too long regardless of the outcome.
“The key thing is that uncertainty is still there,” McKenna told Football League World.
“Uncertainty surrounding Danny Rohl’s future - it’s been going on far too long.
“I mean, as fans we can speculate that it was as a result of a potential takeover, and on the face of it, it would make sense.
“We all know the reason that Danny Rohl wants to move on is because of his relationship with Chansiri, so if there was a chance that Chansiri would go Danny Rohl would possibly want to come back to the club.
“But, unfortunately, we don’t have any tangible confirmation of that.
“It could be that he’s come back for contractual reasons, or there could be a third reason out there we don’t know about.
“But it’s just whatever happens with Danny Rohl, we need an answer, we need to see this effectively a saga coming to an end.
“Personally, I was delighted when I got the news that Danny Rohl was coming back because I would love him to stay on and be our manager next season.
“However, the real key here is we need to get some clarity on the situation and really the fact it’s dragged on so long is ridiculous.”
Rohl has done a fantastic job at Hillsborough so far, overseeing a miraculous survival against relegation in his first season and then an impressive 12th-place finish in 2024-25.
His squad has been gutted though this summer, losing the likes of Josh Windass, Michael Smith, Anthony Musaba and Djeidi Gassama already due to the circumstances of Chansiri not paying wages on time, and more exits could follow.
They have restrictions on the players they can sign, and financial issues that have set the team back massively from being able to compete in the Championship.
Losing Rohl on top of all that, while Chansiri remains owner, would be a real kick in the teeth for supporters given his popularity at Sheffield Wednesday.
