Aston Villa head coach Carla Ward says that her side are feeling positive going into their latest run of fixtures in the Barclays Women’s Super League.

The Villans are yet to pick up a point in the league this season but they have played a number of top opponents.

Aston Villa’s next three matches are against sides that are directly above them in the table and head coach Ward says that her team are ready to pick up points in the coming weeks.

“We haven’t (had an easy game) but on Monday morning, we had a look at November and we’ve set ourselves targets, we know what we want to go after,” Ward said when speaking in an Aston Villa press conference. “The only way we can look now is forward.

“We have to take the hurt, take the anger and look forward to these fixtures in November because they’re all fixtures that we want to try and pick up points from.”

Aston Villa’s next fixture is against newly-promoted Bristol City at Ashton Gate this afternoon. The Robins have collected just three points so far but Ward has been impressed with last season’s Barclays Women’s Championship title winners.

She said “I’ve been impressed with how they’ve set up. Even against Arsenal, they showed a lot of heart, quality and desire. Lauren (Smith) has got them set up in a good way.

“They’ve probably shown in the last couple of weeks that they’re not just here to be the whipping boys as some people might have thought in pre-season. They’ve been really good in moments in the league and I’ve said to the players that this is going to be a tough game. As much as everyone talks about them having just come up, I think they’ve had some really good moments.

“I’m an admirer of Lauren and what she has done there. It’s going to be a tough afternoon that’s for sure.”

Aston Villa’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture at Bristol City kicks-off at 2pm.
