Just one day after signing Jobe Bellingham, Borussia Dortmund were linked with the return of Jadon Sancho (25) but sporting director Sebastian Kehl was quick to reject reports of the club’s interest in the Englishman.
The Athletic had reported that Borussia Dortmund have informed Sancho’s entourage of their interest in the 25-year-old, who returns to Manchester United after Chelsea decided against exercising their purchase option on the attacker.
Speaking at the club’s Brackel training ground as they prepare for the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup, Kehl was asked about Dortmund’s interest in Sancho.
“Of course, contact with Jadon is always there, in some way, because we have a very long history,” said Kehl. “But it’s not an issue for us right now. We have other priorities at the moment and that’s why the Sancho issue was probably played up more in the media than discussed internally.”
Sancho joined Borussia Dortmund from Manchester City in 2017 before leaving for Manchester United in 2021, and returning to the Bundesliga side on loan for the second-half of the 2024/25 season, helping BVB reach the UEFA Champions League final.
The Englishman has spent the entire 2024/25 season on loan at Chelsea, scoring five goals and providing 10 assists in 42 appearances across all competitions, but the Blues decided against signing Sancho as their pursuit of Jamie Gittens continues despite seeing their latest bid rejected.
