We have a future star in Viljami Sinisalo. We now know that Kasper Schmeichel has a worthy successor at Celtic already at the club…

It’s no secret that Viljami Sinisalo was brought to the club last summer as an understudy to Kasper Schmeichel, and the young Finish international has shown that he’s more than a capable replacement for the Dane when he does call time on his career at Celtic.

Viljami has been introduced into first team action quicker than perhaps anticipated due to Kasper’s injury on international duty with Denmark, and the Finland international goalkeeper certainly hasn’t disappointed. If you haven’t read Sandman’s Definitive Ratings today on The Celtic Star then it’s certainly worth checking out and you’ll see that Sinisalo is named as our Man of the Match.

At Ibrox yesterday Viljami looked calm and assured throughout despite the intimidating atmosphere and the vapes and Buckfast bottles being thrown at him by Scotland’s Shame. He showed that he more than has what it takes to become a permanent fixture between the sticks at Celtic.

For a young and relatively inexperienced Celtic goalkeeper to perform so well and remain calm under intense pressure and such a hateful, horrible atmosphere from theRangers support, means we need not worry about his temperament or his ability.

Vil is a big imposing figure who commands his box effectively, and he’s shown that he’s a decent shot stopper in the rare times he’s been called upon whilst deputising for Kasper, who is edging closer to a return.  That is going to give Brendan a big decision to make in the coming few weeks but if it’s Sinisalo who gets the gloves at Hampden he will certainly not be flustered by the big occasion.

His distribution is also good, something that we all know that Brendan demands from his goalkeepers, making his £1 million fee look very much like a bargain. So I think it’s safe to say that whilst it’s still early days VilJami has a decent future at the club and a big chance of being our future regular number one for years to come.
