Leeds United were ‘bullied’ away at Coventry City during their 2-1 loss, former Whites defender Jon Newsome believes.

Daniel Farke’s men stepped onto the pitch at Coventry knowing that automatic promotion rivals Ipswich Town had lost to Norwich City in the Championship’s early fixture.

They were unable to capitalise though and fell behind after just nine minutes when former Everton man Ellis Simms headed past Illan Meslier.

Coventry then made sure they struck again quickly in the second half, with Haji Wright scoring just four minutes after the restart.

Leeds did rally, with substitute Joel Piroe pulling a goal back with 14 minutes left, but could not find another goal and slipped to defeat.

Newsome thinks Leeds upped their game after they scored, but did not have enough time to turn things around and in general were bullied by Coventry.

“I feel like we got bullied. Coventry fought for everything, and didn’t give a yard”, Newsome said post match on BBC Radio Leeds.

“When we upped everything in the second half we got the goal, but by then it was too late.

“We just need to get our heads down now, plug away, and see where the last five games take us.”

Leeds, who sit in third spot in the Championship, now have back to back home games coming up with Sunderland and Blackburn Rovers both due to visit Elland Road.
