“We failed to kill the game” - #BMGSVW reaction

Jonas Hofmann: You obviously come away from a match like that with a bitter taste in your mouth. Just like last week in Leipzig, our lack of clinical finishing cost us. We missed way too many chances and failed to kill the game. Then, as it so often happens in football, Bremen managed to come back at the end. We didn’t defend well for either of their goals, but the equaliser so close to full time should never have happened.

Florian Neuhaus: A draw isn’t enough today. It was a home game that we were determined to win. We know where we are in the table, and the point doesn’t do us much good. I caught the ball well for my goal and it went right into the corner. It felt really good in the moment, because we were really pushing for the next goal. Unfortunately, we weren’t able to grab another, even though we had the chances, so it’s even tougher to come away without getting the win.

Jonas Omlin: It’s unfortunate, as we would have deserved the three points today. We created a lot of chances and should have had the game wrapped up sooner. We made too many careless mistakes today, both in attack and defence. We shouldn’t have allowed Bremen to score the way they did; we have to be more incisive in our defending.

Daniel Farke: It’s a draw, but it feels like a defeat, and there’s no sugarcoating it. We might feel a little differently in a couple of days, as we got a point at least, which might end up proving useful. However, we’re incredibly disappointed with the result right now. The first half was a little wild from both teams. We played with a little too much risk at times. We also missed a couple of golden chances. Our second-half performance had a little more control and, apart from our chance conversion, we played really well. Bremen had two shots in the second half and they scored twice – that’s the kind of clinical edge that we didn’t show, unfortunately. If you don’t take your chances, you can’t afford to make a single mistake, and that wasn’t the case. We have to live with the point.

Werder Bremen head coach Ole Werner: That was an incredibly spirited performance. We came back twice, so it’s a point gained for us. Given the circumstances we find ourselves in at the moment, it was a very good performance from my team. Even though we’ve had to cobble a team together, we were on a par with Gladbach for long periods. We actually looked better at times in the first half, but we struggled a little more after the break. However, Michael Zetterer made some good saves and kept us in the game a number of times.
