Bradley Barcola (21) was vital in Paris Saint-Germain’s 2-0 victory over Real Sociedad in the first leg of their Champions League tie. The young Frenchman has flourished since making the move to Les Parisiens from Olympique Lyonnais in the summer.

There were some doubts over how Barcola would adapt to the demands of the capital. It can be an unforgiving place for young players, and the winger had until this point in his career shown immense talent but also the capacity for great inconsistency.

The steps he’s taken since becoming a Parisien have put to bed any lingering concerns over his suitability for the club and have instead begun to raise new and more favourable questions, such as whether his performances have earned him the right to be selected for Didier Deschamps’ France side.

‘I can attack however I want’ – Bradley Barcola

When asked about a France call-up the winger was measured in his response, “I’m happy with what I’ve been able to do. The French team will analyse my performances. I have to be the best I can be on the pitch, and if it happens, it’ll happen.”

The focus instead was on the task at hand, and to not rest on the laurels of the 2-0 lead that PSG has coming into the game. “We don’t apprehend it [the lead]. We come to win. We’ll act as if it were 0-0 and we’ll go there to win.”

When discussing his manager, Barcola was pleased with the role he has been given alongside Kylian Mbappé (25) and Ousmane Dembélé (26), “There’s a lot of freedoms. That’s what I like about this coach. I can attack however I want.”
