Nico Schlotterbeck believes Borussia Dortmund have what it takes to stay ahead of Bayern Munich and win the Bundesliga title this season.

The international break sees the 23-year-old currently with Germany preparing upcoming international friendlies, but going top of the table in the Bundesliga last week hasn’t quite left his mind.

Dortmund hold a one point lead over rivals Bayern Munich, and Schlotterbeck insists his side have the right tools to win their first title since 2012.

“If everyone delivers their top performance, we can win in Munich,” he said.

“Bayern will be irritated by the loss of the table lead.”

Coincidentally, the two Bundesliga rivals face off in Der Klassiker the first game back after the international break and it’s going to be a tough challenge for Dortmund in their trip to the Allianz Arena.

“We’ve scored more points than them this year and are still unbeaten in the league – those are two very good prerequisites. If everyone pulls off their top performance, we can win in Munich,” added Schlotterbeck.

“We never said we didn’t want the title. I give everything every day for this chance.

“We have to continue to show the mentality, will and fighting spirit that distinguishes us this year every week.”
