Manchester United winger Amad Diallo emerged as the ultimate hero in the breathtaking Derby victory over Manchester City.
The Cityzens, who were playing in front of their home supporters at the Etihad Stadium, were hellbent on regaining their balance after registering a single win in their last 10 outings much to the astonishment of fans and observers.
For their part, the Red Devils were riding a two-match losing streak in the Premier League, so they were in dire need of a Derby boost.
But while Josko Gvardiol’s header was the solitary difference between the two sides until the final stages of the match, it all changed in the last few minutes, with Diallo rising to the occasion.
The 22-year-old latched on a poor backpass from Matheus Nunes to win a spot-kick that was converted by his captain Bruno Fernandes. The young winger then sprinted to meet Lisandro Martinez’s long ball between a sea of blue shirts, before rounding the goalkeeper and coolly placing his shot in the empty net.

Amad acknowledged it wasn’t easy to come out with the result, but feels that United can beat any team when they hit their stride.
“We wanted to win this game. It was not easy,” said the former Atalanta youngster in his post-match interview with BBC Sport.
“In the second half, we pressed good, we wanted to win and we showed today that we can win any game. I want to thank god for this. Let’s enjoy it today and look forward to the next game.”
Man United’s next test will be against Tottenham Hotspur away from home. The two sides will clash heads in the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup.
And with Amad in such scintillating form, the Red Devils can feel optimistic after their chances of reaching the semis.
