Burnley have been lauded for completing the signing of midfielder Hannibal Mejbri from Manchester United ahead of Friday's 11pm transfer deadline.

The Clarets have signed the 21-year-old for an initial £5.4 million outlay, which could rise to £9.4 million, alongside a 50% buy-back and sell-on clause for Erik ten Hag's side according to reports.

It is gearing up to be a busy final two days of the summer window at Turf Moor, with Scott Parker overseeing something of a squad exodus as of late.

South African striker Lyle Foster is poised to join Dara O'Shea and Arijanet Muric at Ipswich Town and Luca Koleosho is continually linked to Wolves while Anass Zaroury, Johan Berg Gudmundsson, Sander Berge, Ameen Al Dakhil, Scott Twine and Wilson Odobert have all left the club in the last two weeks.

However, Mejbri is set to be accompanied in Lancashire by Jeremy Sarminento and Jaidon Anthony should those deals be completed before the deadline and a formal bid has also been submitted for Plymouth Argyle's Morgan Whittaker, as per Fabrizio Romano.

Mejbri, a 26-cap international at senior level for Tunisia, made 13 appearances at United after coming through the club's youth system. He spent time on loan with Birmingham City in the Championship and most recently Spanish top-flight outfit Sevilla before completing a move to Burnley.

Verdict revealed as Burnley sign Hannibal Mejbri from Man United

Amid the flurry of recent outgoings, Burnley have been backed for striking the deal by Football League World's resident Clarets fan pundit Nathan Rogers.

"I think the signing of Hannibal is a smart one, if I'm honest," Nathan explained to Football League World.

"He comes with a fairly low transfer fee for our recent standards, when he's played against us the last few times he's been a sort of tenacious, aggressive, forward-thinking midfielder.

"It's something we're lacking this season, especially after so many outgoings. If he can come here and get settled, find a bit of a home and a base for himself, then I think he can really develop into a good player and we can get a high profit for him later on down the line.

"But I think he would be an instant impact to our midfield, we're lacking a bit of bite in midfield at the minute so bringing him in would be a good move all round."

Hannibal Mejbri could be Burnley's Sander Berge replacement

Burnley needed to address the midfield engine room following Berge's departure to Fulham, and Mejbri could prove to be an ample replacement for the towering Norway international.

Especially for someone still so young, Mejbri is incredibly tenacious and never shies away from engaging in ground duels. He offers high intensity, aggression and athleticism in the middle of the park, which can hand increased attacking license to some of Burnley's more technical-minded operators.

Of course, though, having emerged through the ranks at United, Mejbri still has more than enough about him to thrive in possession, but it is off the ball where his attributes will really come to the fore.

Burnley were played through time and time again in last weekend's shock 1-0 defeat at Sunderland, epitomising their need for a midfielder capable of breaking up play and offering an increased sense of grit and tenacity.

Han-Noah Massengo was entrusted with that role on the day but he simply is not of the level of Mejbri, which is why he could be a real - and much-needed - coup for the Clarets.
