We asked fans of the other 17 Premier League clubs who they want to win the title

We’ve got 10 games left to go in the 2023/24 Premier League this season and the title race is as close as it’s ever been.

There are three teams separated by just one point and it is anyone’s title. Arsenal currently sit top, ahead of second-placed Liverpool on goal difference. One point back in third are Manchester City, looking for an unprecedented fourth consecutive league title.

For the neutral there is a lot of excitement to come. But the question is, are we actually neutral? As fans of teams outside the title challengers, do we have that one club that we would prefer to see lift the Premier League? Or a team that we’d wish don’t win the title?

We asked fans from the other 17 Premier League clubs for the teams they would most like to win the title this season, and who they’d least like to win.

We didn’t get replies from fans for Bournemouth, Brentford, Everton, Luton or Newcastle.

Aston Villa

“Arsenal, my brother’s a Gunner, so [it would] be nice for him to not have a title! But at the same time I’d like to see Liverpool do it for (Jurgen) Klopp one last time and send him off on a high, he’s had a great stint at Liverpool and is adored by the entire club.

“Man City, they’re obviously the favourites and we all love an upset. Pep (Guardiola) is the best in the world and you could argue he’s got one of the greatest squads in football history with how he’s got them playing, and we all love an outsider!”

“For the sake of variety, I’d like to see Arsenal win the Premier League this season. Putting the rivalry between the Gunners and Villa goalkeeper, Emi Martinez aside, Mikel Arteta’s men check the boxes in terms of quality across all areas of the pitch and look to have what it takes to raise their first title in the Emirates Stadium era.

“I’m sure some of the members of our podcast will differ on this, but Manchester City are the team that I really don’t want to see lift the league title this season. No hatred here, but Pep’s men have been so dominant under his reign at the club and a bit of a title to such an excellent side is certainly welcomed!”

Brighton

“This is tough. As a Brighton fan I don’t mind at all, but it has Liverpool written on it for me. Klopp’s final year, and we love Alexis Mac Allister. Arsenal’s chance was last year, but it could be nice to see someone different – but now we expect them to be up there.

“If I’m honest it’s probably City, it’s become pretty boring! We need another storyline again, prime ‘Barclays’ times. Who knows, maybe you’ll see Lewis Dunk holding the PL trophy next year!”

Burnley

“Personally, I’d like to see Arsenal win the Premier League. Not only do they play some great football but I have some great respect for the way they’ve operated in building the squad they have. Mikel Arteta in 2021, [they] had some very good justification for letting him go, after a few months of poor results. Yet they trusted him and believed he could build a squad capable of challenging and making Arsenal a serious club again. Relying on young players and building them up. (Bukayo) Saka, (Gabriel) Martinelli, (Martin) Odegaard, (Ben) White, (William) Saliba so on. The laughable lows of Arsenal a few years back feel like a distant memory, to see it come to a successful conclusion would be a good sign for the Premier League that belief in your manager and your values can lead to success in the long term.

“Unsurprisingly, it’s Manchester City. Perhaps it’s due to the team I support being Burnley, I always will side with the underdog. I will always side with a more competitive league. Manchester City have dominated for many years, with good reason they have the best manager in world and some of the best players to match it. Of course the looming cloud of the 115 charges will continue to follow them, as it likely should until that can of worms is finally closed and a conclusion is made. However, my point remains clear, similar to how I don’t like to see PSG or Bayern win their fellow leagues, or alternatively see Max Verstappen win every F1 race known to man. A competitive sport or league is vital and having a different team win is better for every neutral such as myself that has no bone in this fight.”

Chelsea

“If I had to pick, it would be Manchester City. There is not the bad blood between Chelsea and City that there is between us and Arsenal and Liverpool. They are also a special, Treble-winning team – and as such there is little shame in losing to them.

“I would least like to see Liverpool win the League. This is probably an unpopular opinion among Chelsea fans, but personally I think Liverpool have been a bigger rival over the last decade or so. I am no fan of Jurgen Klopp, and the favourable media treatment he gets, and the summer coverage of a Premier League swansong would be insufferable.”

“Pretty easy for me: I’d like to see Arsenal win the league this year. I’ve watched them come close lots of times in my life and would enjoy them finally getting over the line this time. I’m a big fan of Arteta and what he’s building.

“Tough one really. I quite like City generally, but probably them. I think Klopp gets a lot of heat for only winning one league title, which I think is very unfair. He’s a great manager and to win multiple would hopefully shut a lot of people up.”

Man Utd

“In the words of the new Manchester United co-owner, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, “I hate them all”. However, if compelled to select one, it would be Arsenal. The rationale behind this choice is twofold: Should Manchester City secure another title victory, they would beat our record of four consecutive Premier League titles. Conversely, if Liverpool were to emerge victorious, it would mark their 20th title, thereby equalling Manchester United’s own title record. While I am disinclined toward any of these outcomes, the prospect of Arsenal triumphing suggests that the Premier League remains a competitive arena, rather than a two horse race. Furthermore, it underscores the notion that a youthful team and coach can compete successfully within the Premier League. Such an outcome instils other clubs with a sense of optimism and aspiration.

“While it’s commonly known that Liverpool are our biggest rivals, I’d have to say Manchester City. This is solely on the premise that should Liverpool attain 20 titles, it is my hope and assumption that Manchester United can and will win additional titles in the future to surpass their tally. However, in this modern era of football and the high level of competition, I harbour doubts regarding our ability to achieve four consecutive title wins.”

Nottingham Forest

“Arsenal, we beat them last year to confirm our survival in the Premier League and cost them the title so we wouldn’t begrudge them some happiness this season.

“Least would be Liverpool. After Forest were cheated by the referee breaking the rules which led to a Liverpool 99th-minute winner, let’s hope that point isn’t enough for them to win the title!”

“I would most like to see Liverpool win the Premier League as Klopp is an outstanding manager, arguably the current best in the world, and it would be great for his legacy to end on a high. Further, Spurs have already beaten them this season.

“Without a doubt Manchester City would be my pick. Pep’s team have won it five times in the last six years and it’s just a feeling we’ve all become accustomed to now. City are now the team you support when your own can no longer keep pace at the top…

West Ham

“Man City – Top team and manager. I think their strength in depth will push them over the line ahead of Arsenal & Liverpool.

“Arsenal – West Ham’s London rivals so this one was obvious, but at the same time seeing them mount a title charge has been refreshing for a different team to be in the mix. I think they’ll slip up away at Man City and that could be costly.”
