Arsenal head coach Jonas Eidevall says that opening day opponents Liverpool will provide his side with a stern test.

The two sides are scheduled to meet at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday afternoon. There is a chance that the game could attract a Barclays Women’s Super League record attendance.

When speaking in the pre-match press conference, Arsenal boss Eidevall said that his side’s first opponents of the new season will be tough while he is expecting the Barclays Women’s Super League to be more competitive than ever before.

“I expect it to be the most competitive WSL season that there’s ever been,” Eidevall said. “I think a lot of squads have been strengthening.

“I think Liverpool are a very competitive side and they have been playing a very competitive schedule in pre-season. They’ve played a lot of top teams and their performances have been good, so we are playing against a tough opponent.

“We’ve just completed our ninth training session in four months with the whole squad, so that’s where we are coming from. We need to get all of our basics and all of our relationships right on the pitch in order to go fully on Sunday.”

The likes of Liverpool, Brighton & Hove Albion and Leicester City have caught the eye with their dealings in the summer transfer window. While the sides in the middle of the table could be more dangerous this season, Eidevall is preparing his side for every single game in the most professional manner.

He said “I never think of it that way (being wary of specific teams), my only mentality is to prepare 100 percent for every opponent. You do your absolute very best in preparation and execution, every single second on the pitch.

“I’ve never viewed a game as an easy game, so I’m not going to do that this season either.”

Arsenal will play more league matches at the Emirates Stadium this season than they have ever done before. Eidevall is pleased that the supporters are continuing to back his side as the club look to stage even more matches at the main stadium in the future.

“When I speak about momentum for the club, I think attracting large audiences to the Emirates Stadium is a massively important bit to that,” Eidevall said.

“It’s part of the club’s longer term plans to move more and more games to the Emirates Stadium. In order to do so, we need to have the interest, so it’s great to see that we have that.”

Arsenal’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture against Liverpool kicks-off at 2pm on Sunday afternoon.
