Pedro Neto was full of praise for Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall ahead of Wednesday’s Conference League final as he labelled the midfielder an “important” player.
The Blues take on Real Betis in Poland on Wednesday evening looking to follow up Champions League qualification by winning their first piece of silverware under the new ownership.
If Chelsea get their hands on the trophy they would become the first club to have won all three European trophies, and it could act as a springboard to further success for the squad.
Whilst the Blues clearly shouldn’t be in the Conference League, the competition has had a lot of positives this season.
Due to the level of opposition Enzo Maresca has been able to hand opportunities to players who aren’t regulars in the Premier League, whilst a number of youngsters have also made their debut.
Dewsbury-Hall has scored four goals in the Conference League this season.
Dewsbury-Hall is one such player who’s benefitted from the competition and the £30m summer signing from Leicester has started 11 of the 12 games in the competition so far, compared to just two starts in the league.
The 26-year-old was linked with a move away in January, but Joe Cole believes Dewsbury-Hall is better than people give him credit for, and Neto has also praised his team-mate.
“He has the opportunity to play in the Conference League and is doing really well,” he told Uefa’s YouTube channel.
“He has been an important player for us in this competition, so we are happy for him. Even in the last game, he scored a goal as well, and he’s been doing really great.”
Despite being an important part of the Conference League campaign there’s likely to be a high chance this could be Dewsbury-Hall’s final game for the Blues.

Chelsea face a critical summer and could look to sell as many as seven or eight first team players to fund their business, with a striker the main priority.
The likes of Axel Disasi, Renato Veiga, Christopher Nkunku, Joao Felix and Dewsbury-Hall are all candidates to leave amongst others.
