FC Barcelona has thrived under Hansi Flick during this ongoing campaign, and it is due to several reasons. From the coach’s meticulous nature to his demanding training sessions, every single detail has helped. However, there are definitely some players at Barcelona who have even benefited at a personal level with his arrival.
One of those players is undoubtedly Polish striker Robert Lewandowski. Having worked under Hansi Flick at German side Bayern Munich previously, the Barcelona ace knows all too well how Flick likes to operate and just what kind of an impact he would have on the Catalan club as well.
Ultimately, the arrival of the new coach has helped the Barcelona striker find his best version again. With 19 goals in 17 games across all competitions this season, Lewandowski is competing against the best of the best again when it comes to European goalscorers.
Recently, as highlighted by SPORT, the 36-year-old Polish striker made sure to speak about Hansi Flick’s impact on the team in an interview. For him, every player in the team now feels ‘stronger’ and this helps them focus on other elements of their game as well:
“Everyone at the club is doing better. As players, we’re performing very well on the field. I also think we all feel stronger. With the physical preparation we now have, we don’t need to worry about meeting the physical demands of the game and can focus on outsmarting our opponents. We know we’re in good shape, with the power and stamina to do what we need.”
On a personal level, he confessed that Flick’s arrival excited him as well. Having a deep understanding with the coach thanks to their time together in Germany, the former Bayern Munich striker believes that it benefits him a lot:
“When I found out Hansi was coming to Barça, I was very happy because I knew what was going to happen. I’ve worked with Hansi a lot, and we don’t need to talk much; we understand each other very well. When he explains something, I immediately grasp what he’s trying to convey. That’s one of the things I like most about him.”
However, he also made sure to highlight another quality of Flick’s that seems to make him such a reliable and accessible coach for his players. By being open and direct with his players in terms of the decisions he makes, Lewandowski believes it makes the new Barcelona coach that much more understandable for everyone as well:
“He’s a very direct and fair person. Even with players who aren’t starting, he takes the time to talk to them and tell them the truth. All the players appreciate that because when someone is completely honest with you, it’s easier to understand their decisions.”
Now back in training, Robert Lewandowski will be hoping to start against Celta Vigo in the upcoming game in La Liga. While another key forward remains sidelined, the Polish ace will be hoping to have enough support from his teammates to get through their opponents and get all three points.
